Abstract
Objective To evaluate the expression of EGF and TGF-β1 in congenital hydronephro sis. Methods The expression of EGF and TGF-β1 protein was determined in 15 renal specimens with hydronephrosis and 6 normal control specimens by immunohistochemisty. Results The expression of EGF protein was obviously reduced; there was mild positive expression of EGF protein in a few tubular cells in 2cases. The expression of TGF-β1 significantly increased and it was mainly localized in proximal tubular cells.Conclusions The abnormal expression of EGF and TGF-β1 in congenital hydronephrosis might related to the degree of hydronephrosis, renal atrophy and interstitial fibrosis.
