Abstract

Objective To evaluate the expression of EGF and TGF β 1 in congenital hydronephrosis.Methods The expression of EGF and TGF β 1 protein was determined in 15 renal specimens with hydronephrosis and 6 normal control specimens by immunohistochemisty.Results The expression of EGF protein was obviously reduced; there was mild positive expression of EGF protein in a few tubular cells in 2 cases. The expression of TGF β 1 significantly increased and it was mainly localized in proximal tubular cells.Conclusions The abnormal expression of EGF and TGF β 1 in congenital hydronephrosis might related to the degree of hydronephrosis, renal atrophy and interstitial fibrosis.
