Abstract
Objective To review our experience of Nuss correction of pectus excavatum of older children without thoracoscopy. Methods 24 patients with pectus excavatum underwent Nuss procedure without thoracoscopy. There were 19 boys and 5 girls. The average age was 13 years and 10 months (range. 12 years and 2 months to 17 years and 11 months). Results The operation in all patients had been performed successfully without severe complication. The average operation duration was 45 minutes. The average blood loss was 10 ml. Conclusions The non-thoracoscopic Nuss procedure for pectus excavatum correction in older children is safe. Avoidance of thoracoscope results in lesstrauma and shorter operation time. Modification of the original technique of Nuss procedure and evaluation of long-term result require further study.
