Abstract

Objective To study the effects of different surgical procedures for V-pattern exotropia. Methods 48 cases of exotropia with V-pattern were studied. 32 cases were performed the procedure of weakening inferior oblique and 16 cases were treated with the horizontal rectus vertical transposition(with recession of the lateral rectus and shirtening operation of the medial rectus). The eye position, the function of inferior oblique and the binocular vision were analyzed before surgery and after surgery, Results After surgery, orthophoria of the primary eye position was 45 cases ,disapperance of V-pattern was 43 cases, 17 cases had obtained binocular vision. Conclusions The procedure of weakening inferior oblique was most effective for V- pattern exotropia with hyperfunction of inferior oblique. The horizontal rectus vertical transposition was most effective for V-pattern exotropia without hyperfunction of inferior oblique. Key words: V-pattern exotropia;  Inferior oblique;  Operation
