Expressions of MMP-2 and MMP-9 mRNA in patients with acute B lymphoblastic leukemia

Abstract
Objective To investigate the expressions of matrix metalloproteinase-2 (MMP-2) and matrix metalloproteinase-9 mRNA (MMP-9 mRNA) in patients with acute B lymphocytic leukemia. Methods 40 cases of acute B lymphocytic leukemia diagnosed and treated at our hospital from October, 2016 to October, 2017 were selected and were divided into an initial treatment group and a relapse group according to their incidences, 30 cases for each group. And the 10 healthy people were selected as a control group. The concentrations of MMP-2 and MMP-9 mRNA in the supernatant of bone marrow in the patients were detected and compared. The relationship between the expressions of MMP-2 and MMP-9 mRNA and extramedullary infiltration was analyzed. Results No MMP-2 mRNA expressed but MMP-9 mRNA in the control group. The expression rates of MMP-2 mRNA and MMP-9 mRNA were 63.33% and 23.33% in the initial treatment group, 70.00% and 30.00% in the relapse group, and 0.00% and 70.00% in the control group, with statistical differences between those in the initial treatment group and the relapse group and those in the control group (P 0.05) . The expression rates of MMP-2 mRNA and MMP-9 mRNA in extramedullary infiltration groupwere significantly higher than those in the no extramedullary infiltration group (94.73% vs. 38.09% and 47.36% vs. 4.76%), with statistical difference (P<0.05). Conclusions Leukemia cells in patients with acute B lymphoblastic leukemia can produce MMP-2 and MMP-9 mRNA, which can be used as clinical indicators for judging the malignant behavior of leukemia and provide guidance for targeted therapy.
