Abstract

Objective To investigate the serum levels of CRP, IL -6, IL -8 and their clinical significance in patients with acute cerebral infarction ( ACI). Methods Sixty patients with ACI were selected and divided into different groups according to the size of infarction and clinical neurologic impairment degree score. The serum CRP level was detected by immunoturbidimetry, IL - 6 and IL - 8 concentrations were detected by enzyme - linked immunosorbent assay ( ELISA). Results The serum CRP, IL - 6 and IL - 8 levels in the patients with ACI within 72 hours after the onset were significantly higher than that in the healthy subjects (P < 0.05 ). Comparing groups with the different infarction size; the serum levels of CRP, IL - 6 and IL - 8 were increased steply with the volume of infarction increased, the differences between the groups were significant ( P < 0. 05). Comparing the three groups, the serum levels of CRP, IL - 6 and IL - 8 were increased steply with the clinical neurologic impairment degree score increased, the differences between the groups were significant ( P <0. 05). Conclusions The serum levels of CRP, IL -6 and IL -8 are significantly elevated in the patients with ACI. The serum levels of CRP, IL - 6 and IL-8 were increased closely with the volume of infarction and the clinical neurologic impairment degree score, which suggests that CRP, IL - 6 and IL - 8 may play an important role in the pathogenesis of ACI, and probably be a prognostic factor of ACI Key words: Acute cerebral infarction;  C - reactice protein;  Interleukin - 6;  Interleukin - 8;  Enzyme - linked immunosorbent assay
