Abstract

Objective To investigate the effect of modified anterior chamber paracentesis in glaucoma patients with sustained high intraocular pressure. Methods 38 eyes of 35 cases of glaucoma with continuous state of elevated intraocular pressure were enrolled in the study. There were 21 case of acute angleclosure glaucoma,6 cases of chronic angle-closure glaucoma,4 cases of neovascular glaucoma,4 cases of secondary glaucoma with age-related cataract in intumescent stage. The intraocular pressure of patients could not be reduced effectively by medical treatment. The modified anterior chamber paracentesis was performed in all the patients under operating microscope. Results The eye pain and headache were relieved and the visual acuity was improved in all the patients. The average intraocular pressure was(17.30 ± 5.40)mm Hg(1 mm Hg =0.133 kPa)after the procedure. Conclusion Modified anterior chamber paracentesis is safe and effective with slight damage to the tissue and slight inflammatory reaction in the management of sustained high intraocular pressure which avoids the side effects caused by long term application of antiglaucoma medication. Key words: Pressure, intraocular, high;  State, continuous;  Paracentesis, anterior chamber, modified
