Abstract

Objective To observe the distribution of pathogens in lower respiratory tract infection in neo-nates for giving the suggestion in using antibiotics. Method 500 neonates with lower respiratory tract infection in our hospital from February 2006 to September 2008 were analyzed retrospectively and the distribution of pathogens were statistically analyzed, Results Among 500 sputum sample, 400 (80.0%) were identified pathogenic strains includ-ing 250 (62.5%) Gram-negative bacilli, 80 (20.0%) Gram-positive bacilli, and 70 (17.5%) Fungi. Conclusion Gram-negative bacilli, Pseudomonas aeruginesa and Klebsiella pneumoniae were predominant pathogens of lower respiratory tract infection in neonates. Key words: Pathogens;  Lower Respiratory Tract Infection;  Gram-negative bacilli;  Gram-positive bacilli;  Fungi;  Neonates
