Abstract

Objective To report the therapeutic effect of vitrectomy for a group of patients diagnosed as the retinal detachment with macular hole combined with choroidal detachment. Methods The therapeutic effect of twenty cases (20 eyes) diagnosed as the retinal detachment with macular hole combined with choroidal detachment who had undergone surgery from September, 2004 to August, 2008 was analyzed retrospectively. All patients underwent vitrectomy combined with adjunct of 16% C3F8 or silicone oil.Prone position was conducted regularly postoperatively.Triamcinolone acetonide was used to make the vitreous body visible in the course of operation. All patients were followed up for 6 months~4 years after operation. Results Single-operation anatomic success was 95.00% (19/20) in those patients. One eye tamponaded with silicone oil was reoperated because it was combined with the total choroidal detachment (360°) and several retinal tears preoperatively. Its retina was reattached after reoperation.Visual acuity increased in 18 eyes (90%), no change in 1 eye (5%), decreased in 1 eye (5%).Conclusions The vitrectomy with adjunct of 16% C3F8 or silicone oil is an effective method in treating retinal detachment with macular hole combined with choroidal detachment. Visual acuity can be mostly improved or kept after operation. Key words: Retinal detachment with macular hole;  Choroidal cetachment;  Vitrectomy
