The clinic observation of phacoemulsification and trabeculectomy in the treatment of angle closure glaucoma with cataract

Objective To observe the clinical effect of phacoemulsification and trabeculectomy in the treatment of angle closure glaucoma with cataract.Methods Forty-six eyes of 41 cases of angle closure glaucoma combined with cataract were treated by phacoemulsification and trabeculectomy.They were retrospectively reviewed and the clinical effects were analyzed.Results The follow-up was 12 months.The vision of 36 eyes (78.26％) were 0.3 or better after operation.The vision of all cases was above 0.05,and the cure rate of blindness was 100％.The difference in the intraocular pressure was statistically significant between the preoperative one and the postoperative one (t =7.71,P ＜ 0.01),which was (32.5 ± 6.2)mmHg preoperatively and (14.2 ±4.6) mmHg postoperatively.A significant change in corneal endothelial density was found between the preoperative one and the postoperative one (t =4.29 ～ 4.331,P ＜ 0.01),while no significant changes were found among postoperative examinations at 1 week,1 month,and 3 months (t =0.025 ～ 0.097,P ＞ 0.05).Conclusion Phacoemulsification surgery combined with trabeculectomy is an effective and safe method for treatment of angle closure glaucoma with cataract.
