Abstract

Objective To observe the clinical application of triamcinolone acetonide in vitreoretinal surgery. Methods One hundred eyes of 100 patients in whom the posterior vitreous detachment was not disagnosed before and during the vitreoretinal surgery were chosed, and triamcinolone acetonide suspension 2 mg was injected to stain the vitreous after resection of most vitreous and then the posterior cortex of vitreous was completely removed. The vitreous residue and postoperative intraocular pressure was observed. Results Triamcinolone acetonide was injected in all patients and the residual vitreous can be fully recognized. The posterior vitreous detachment was completed, and the vitreous was thoroughly cleared. The postoperative high intraocular pressure happened in 3 cases, and the incidence rate was 6%. After symptomatic treatment, the high intraocular pressure was controlled and recovered. After following up for 3~4 months, no cataract or recurrent retinal detachment occurred. Conclusion Triamcinolone acetonide has high application value on vitreoretinal surgery, which is helpful to fully understand, identify and remove the vitreous, improve the vitreous clearance rate, reduce the incidence of postoperative complications and the recurrence rate of retinal detachment.
