Transsphenoidal approach operation for pituitary adenoma in 67 cases

Abstract
Objective To study the methods and evaluate the clinical effects of single-nostril transsphenoidal pituitary adenoma microsurgery. Methods Clinical datas of 67 cases of pituitary adenoma treated by single-nostril transsphenoidal approach microsurgery from August 2008 to August 2010 were analyzed retrospectively. In which, 16 cases of micro-adenoma, 43 cases of large adenoma and 8 cases of huge adenoma. Results Total resection was achieved in 50 cases,subtotal resection in 9 cases,most partial resection in 6 cases and partial resection in 2 cases, no one died. Of the 67 cases, 16 cases were PRL adenoma, 8 cases were GH adenoma, mixed type (incluing PRL plus GH type or PRL plus ACTH type) 16 cases and no functional adenoma 8 cases. Conclusions Single-nostril transsphenoidal approach microsurgery is a minimally invasive, safe and effective method for the treatment of pituitary adenomas.
