Prevention and control of angiostrongyliasis cantonensis and Pomacea canaliculata

Angiostrongyliasis cantonensis is a parasitic disease caused by Angiostrongylus cantonensis.Human acquired infection mainly via ingestion of under-cooked snail meal containing the third stage larvae of A.cantonensis.The major manifestations include headache,neck stiffness and skin paresthesis.Some cases have significant eosinophil increase in peripheral blood and/or cerebrospinal fluid.The main definitive hosts are rats (Rattus norvegicus,R.tanezumi,etc.),the main intermediate hosts are snails(Pomacea canaliculata,Achatina fulica,etc.).The method to prevent the occurrence of the disease is to improve restaurant sanitation and personal hygiene,and make sure that snail must be well cooked before eating.
