Abstract
Objective To evaluate the significance of small incision cataract extraction and implantation of artificial lens under topical anesthesia in the large-scale action of regaining eyesight. Methods Small incision cataract extraction and implantation of artificial lens was undergone in 723 cases (783 eyes), under topical anesthesia with 0.4% oxybuprocaine, and the effect of anesthesia and postoperative result were observed. Results All the patients could cooperate in the operations under topical anesthesia. Average surgery time was 15 minutes and there was no complication of anesthesia. Conclusion Small incision cataract extraction and implantation of artificial lens under topical anesthesia is safe and feasible for large-scale cataract surgeries. Key words: cataract surgery; small incision; topical anesthesia
