Abstract
Objective: To observe the effect of topical anesthesia in non-phacoemulsification cataract extraction and IOL implantation using small incision. Methods:Under topical anesthesia small incision non-phacoemulsification cataract extraction and IOL implantation were done in 80 patients (92eyes),and the effectiveness of topical anesthesia and postoperative visual acuity were surveyed. Results:All operations were smoothly done under topical anesthesia without any additional retrobulbar or peribulbar anesthesia and all the patients co-operated very well with the operators during the operations. The vision≥0.5 was 61.96% and 77.17% (at 1 week postoperatively) respectively. Conclusion:Small incision non-phacoemulsification cataract extraction and IOL implantation under topical anesthesia is safe and effective.
