Abstract

Objective To evaluate the effect of the chosen incision on corneal astigmatism after cataract surgery. Methods 195 patients of age-related cataract were randomly divided into two groups:the chosen incision group(Group A,96 cases) and superior limbus incision group(Group B,99 cases). On the day before operation,1 week,1 month and 3 months after operation, each patient was examined with corneal topography to observe the corneal astigmatism. Results Preoperative corneal astigmatisms were (1.15-± 0.07)D in group A and (1.16 ±0.07) D in group B.There was no statistically significant different (P >0.05).1 week postoperatively, the astigmatism value were (2.16 ±0.09) D in group A and (1.33 ±0.09) D in group B.1 month postoperatively, the astigmatism value were (0.96 ±0.07) D in group A and (1.24 ±0.07) D in group B.3 month postoperatively, the astigmatism value were (0.89 ± 0.06) D in group A and (1.24 ±0.08) D in group B.The differences between the two groups were statistically significant (P < 0.01).Conclusion The chosen incision could reduce postoperative astigmatism to a certain extent. Key words: Cataract; Astigmatism
