Abstract
The damage and regeneration of vascular endothelium is very important for the maintenance of vascular integrity. The bone marrow-derived endothelial progenitor cells contribute to the repair of vascular endothelial in the circulation. After ischemia, the endothelial progenitor cells mobilize to the circulation from the bone marrow, and home to sites of ischemia. In ischemia tissue, they participate in new blood vessel growth by paracrine growth factors or penetrate into the blood vessels. The function of endothelial progenitor cells in diabetic patients is impaired in hyoxia condition, including mobilization, adhesion, migration,proliferation and so on. Here reviews the function of endothelial progenitor cells and effects of hypoxia on endothelial progenitor cells in diabetes.
