Abstract
Anxiety and depression are common comorbidities of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), which occur more frequently in persons with COPD than in persons without COPD.Co-morbid anxiety and depression are associated with the interaction of multiple factors, including behavioral, social and biological factors.Although anxiety and depression exert a considerably negative impact on the course and prognosis of COPD, the identification and management of co-morbid anxiety and depression is inadequate in the clinical setting. There is some evidence for the efficacy of pulmonary rehabilitation, pharmacological treatments and psychological therapy in reducing anxiety and depression in patients with COPD, but there is no consensus as to the most appropriate managing approach. Key words: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease; Anxiety; Depression; Comorbidities
