Abstract
Objective The purpose of this study was to investigate the expression of β-catenin and c-Myc in oral squamous cell carcinomas (OSCC). Methods The expression of β-Catenin and C-myc was analyzed in 65 OSCC cases and 13 normal oral tissues by immunohistochemistry. Results The abnormal expression rate of β-Catenin was 56.92% in OSCC tissues, which was significantly higher than that in normal tissues (15.38%, P=0.006). The expression of β-catenin was closely related with tumor size and lymph node metastasis (P=0.003, P=0.017, respectively). The expression rate of c-Myc was 64.62% in OSCC tissues, which was significantly higher than that in normal tissues (7.69%, P=0). Furthermore, we found that the expression of β-Catenin in cytoplasm was positively correlated with the expression of c-Myc protein in OSCC (rs=0.237, P=0.049). Conclusion Overexpression of c-Myc may play an important role in the development and progression of OSCC, and the expression of β-catenin in cytoplasm was associated with the metastasis of OSCC.
