Effect of self-made Runfei Jianpi Yishen Decoction on pulmonary function and inflammatory factors in children with refractory asthma

Objective To explore the effect of self-made Runfei Jianpi Yishen Decoctionin in the treatment of refractory asthma in children, and its influence on pulmonary function, inflammatory factors and clinical symptom score. Methods 88 children with refractory asthma admitted to our hospital from February 2015 to December 2016 were retrospectively selected and divided into control group and observation group according to different treatment methods. The control group was treated with routine western medicine, while the observation group was treated with self-made Runfei Jianpi Yishen Decoction on the basis of the control group. The changes of pulmonary function, clinical symptom score and cytokine levels in two groups were observed. Results The scores of clinical symptoms in the two groups were improved after treatment, and those in the observation group were better than those in the control group (P<0.05). After treatment, the levels of forced vital capacity (FVC), forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV1) and peak expiratory flow (PEF) in the two groups were higher than those before treatment. The levels of FVC, FEV1 and PEF in the observation group were higher than those in the control group (P<0.05). After treatment, the levels of interleukin (IL)-8, IgE, osteopontin (OPN) and eosinophil cationic protein (ECP) in the two groups were decreased, while the levels of interferon (IFN)-γ and Cor were increased (P<0.05). After treatment, the levels of IL-8, IgE, OPN and ECP in the observation group were lower than those in the control group, and the levels of IFN-γ and Cor in the observation group were higher than those in the control group (P<0.05). Conclusions The self-made Runfei Jianpi Yishen Decoctionin is effective in the treatment of refractory asthma in children. It can effectively improve the pulmonary function and regulate the levels of immune factors, OPN and ECP in children.
