Abstract
endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in tumor tissues and its relationship with tumor grade and prognosis in patients with glioma. Methods The immunohistochemical SP method was used to detect the expression of MMP-9 and VEGF in 50 cases of glioma and 30 cases of normal brain tissue. The correlation between the expression of MMP-9 and VEGF and grading characteristics of glioma was analyzed. Results In 30 cases of normal brain tissues, the expression of MMP-9 protein was negative, and VEGF protein positive expression rate was 26.7% (8/30).The expression positive rate of MMP-9 and VEGF in gliomas was 68.0% (34/50),and 76.0% (38/50) respectively. There was significant difference in the MMP-9 and VEGF expression between low and high malignant groups of gliomas (P < 0.05).Conclusion The upregulated MMP-9 and VEGF in gliomas is associated with malignant progression of gliomas and may play synergic effects in the occurrence and development of gliomas. Key words: Glioma; Matrix metalloproteinase-9; Vascular endothelial growth factor
