Treatment of cervical spondylotic radiculopathy with electroacupuncture

Abstract

To evaluate the therapeutic effects of electroacupuncture in treatment of cervicalspondylotic radiculopathy (CSR). Ninety CSR patients were randomly divided into two groups with 45 ineach; in treatment group patients received electroacupuncture; in control group patients were treated withphysical therapy (ultrashort wave and hot style low frequency wave). The therapeutic effects and the changesof clinical assessment scale for cervical spondylosis (CASCS) score were observed between two groups. Aftertreatment, the overall effective rates were 93% in treatment group and 84% in control group (P>0. 05) ;however the rate of marked improvement and the CASCS score were higher in treatment group than those incontrol group (P <0. 01). Electroacupuncture has a more favorite therapeutic effect than physical therapy forCSR. Key words: Electroacupuncture; Cervical spondylosis
