The clinical application of Shikani in airway management

Background Shikani Optical Stylet (SOS) is a novel fiberoptic intubation device.It features both fiberoptic bronchoscope and lightwand,and it can be used for tracheal intubation and difficult airway management. Objective To review the application of SOS in the clinical setting and describe the characteristics of the technique for tracheal intubation. Content Summarizing the structural characteristics,operational technique,clinical application and clinical determination of SOS,especially reminding us of its limitations. Trend SOS will play a pivotal role in airway management.However,it is not a universal instrument to cope with all difficult airways,and clinical physicians should make decisions in accordance with specific conditions.
