Abstract

Magnetic flux leakage detection (MFL) is widely used in wire rope testing to ensure the life and safety of wire rope. In the traditional magnetic flux leakage detection of steel wire rope, Local flaw detection (LF) usually detects the radial signal of magnetic flux leakage through magnetic sensors. In this paper, by analyzing the characteristics of the three-dimensional component of magnetic flux leakage in magnetic flux leakage detection, it is found that the relationship between the circumferential signal of magnetic flux leakage and the surface area of defect is relatively obvious. Through the above characteristics, a quantitative detection method for the surface area of wire rope defect based on the circumferential magnetic flux leakage image is proposed. In the process of the actual MFL detection, due to the steel wire rope testing is different from the pipe, steel wire rope has strand texture in magnetic flux leakage detection performance for strand wave signal, in the actual detection, the detection signal submerged in strands wave signal, channel unequalization and eccentric problem will exist in the actual detection at the same time. By the proposed method can reduce the effects of the above factors, obtain good effect of the magnetic flux image. The defect surface area can be quantified by surrounding the peak and valley points in the magnetograph.
