Abstract
This article describes construction of China's ChongZun Expressway. The expressway will compose 118 km of new grade-separated dual two- lane expressway from Chongxihe in the north to Zunyi in the south (in the Guizhou province). This endeavor is part of the Chongqing to Guizhou Roads Development Project. Approximately 19 km of the route is to be in tunnel, with 11 of the 17 construction contracts including tunneling works. The tunnels will each have two separate tubes which carry two lanes of traffic in each direction. The design speed for the tunnels is at either 60 km/hour or 80 km/hour, with lane widths at either 3.5 m or 3.75 m. Excavation of the tunnels has been by drill and blast method.
