Abstract
Operations of current parallel runways are briefly introduced first, including the shortcomings. Then it is presented for the two major procedures how to improve the capacity of closely spaced parallel runways, AILS(airborne information for lateral spacing) and paired approach. The AILS system is stable and suitable for closely parallel runways. But it requires specified equipment performance. The paired approach is used for very closely spaced parallel runways (less than 2500 ft between runway centerlines), and it can expedite the traffic flow through shorten the lateral space. But it also requires many conditions, and is sensitive to the wind speed, final approach speed and acceleration.
