Abstract
This paper studies two key issues involved in the planning of closely spaced parallel runways, namely, the spacing between the two runway centerlines and the threshold staggering.According to the different combinations of runway reference codes, the suggested values for closely parallel runways spacing are given. The runway threshold staggering and the different approaches for achieving this and their effects on dependant parallel approaches, runway operation mode, aircraft ground maneuvering and efficiency are also discussed in detail. Finally, some recommendations about runway end staggering are presented for planning purpose.
