Abstract

An experimental study on the shell side flow and heat transfer of a new type shell and tube heat exchanger was conducted, and comparative research of a segmental baffle heat exchanger with the same specifications was made. Then simplified shell side computational models of the two heat exchangers were created for numerical simulation, temperature, flow and pressure distributions were obtained, and the simulation results were compared with the experimental data.Experimental study and numerical simulation results show: the new longitudinal-flow heat exchanger has uniform temperature distribution, small flow dead zone, low shell pressure drop, and combination property is much higher than segmental baffle heat exchanger.
