Expression of MMP2 and MMP9 in breast cancer and its clinical significances

[Objecitve] To investigate the expression and prognostic significance of matrix metaloporteinase 2(MMP-2) and matrix metaloporteinase 9(MMP-9) in the breast cancer.[Method] MMP-2 and MMP-9 were detected by SP immunchistochemical technique in 88 patients with breast cancer including 54 cases with lymphnode metastasis and 34 cases without and 53 cases of breast benign disease.[Results] The expression rates of MMP-2 and MMP-9 were 78.4%(69/88) and 61.4%(54/88) in the breast cancers were significantly higher than those in breast benign disease which being 39.6%(21/53) and 28.3%(15/53)(P0.01).In addition,compared with expression rate of MMP-2 and MMP-9 were 58.8%(20/34) and 50.0%(17/34),in case without lymphnode metastasis,the expression rates being 90.7%(49/54) and 74.1%(40/54) in those with lymphnode metastasis were increasing(P0.01).[Conclusion] The expressions of MMP-2 and MMP-9 closely correlated to lymphnode metastasis,and act as prognostic markers for patients with breast cancer.
