Abstract

Superabsorbent was prepared by graft co-polymerization using acrylic acid onto corn starch. The molecular structure was characterized by means of FTIR method. Many factors such as concentration of initiator, amount of cross-link agent and neutralization ratio were studied systemically. The effects of initiator K_2S_2O_8-Na_2S_2O_3 on absorbency of de-ionized water and running water for copolymer were studied carefully. The copolymer prepared by corn starch and acrylic acid can absorb de-ionized water 920g/g,running water 180g/g,individually.In addition,as the starch was changed for corn flour, the copolymer can absorb de-ionized water 870g/g,at the same time, the speed of absorbing water increases largely.
