Abstract

Objective To investigate a serum marker with high sensitivity and specificity in diagnosis of Small Cell Lung Cancer. Methods The serum level of NSE in 96 cases with lung cancer,221 cases with Pulmonary fibrosis and 176 healthy controls was detected by radioimmunoassay. Results The serum NSE in patients with lung cancer was significantly higher than that in patients with Pulmonary fibrosis and healthy controls (P 0.01).The serum NSE level in small-cell lung cancer was the highest, and increased with staging increase in the lung cancer. The serum NSE level in stage Ⅳ /Ⅲ was significantly higher than that in stage Ⅰ /Ⅱ (P 0.01).The prognosis in patients with low level NSE was superior to those with high level NSE.Conclusion NSE may be used as a useful tumor marker in patients with lung cancer.
