Abstract
The changes of community diversity characteristics of a 76 year old Chinese fir community, which was originally occupied by a Pinus massoniana broadleaved mixed forest community, were studied based on the data collected from sample plots with an area of 3 600 m 2 in Ancaoxia,Nanping,Fujian Province The results showed that the old growth Chinese fir community had lower α diversity indices of community's family, community's species, tree layer's species and tree synusia's species than the Pinus massoniana broadleaved mixed forest community The species diversity indices order of the shrub layer and shrub synusia was as follows:the old growth Chinese fir community in the hillsidePinus massoniana broadleaved mixed forest communitythe old growth Chinese fir community in the low land The change of gradients of soil and other ecological factors caused by gradients of slope location had significant impact on β diversity of communities The greater the gradient of slope location, the higher the β diversity between the communities, and the lower similarity indices between the communities
