Abstract

Objective To observe the effects of Misoprostol on prevention of postpartum hemorrhage in term labor. Methods 505 term labors were randomly divided into three groups: the Misoprostol group, 175, 400mg Misoprostol was given orally immediately after delivery of the baby shoulders;the Oxytocin group,160, 20 IU Oxytocin was injected into muscle immediately after delivery of the baby shoulders; the Misoprostol and Oxytocin group,170, 400ug Misoprostol was given orally and 20 IU oxytocin was injected into muscle immediately after delivery of the baby shoulders. Results The mean amount of bleeding witnin 2 hours after delivery in the Misoprostol group was 174.27±29.76 ml, the Oxytocin group was 296.17±32.54ml,the Misoprostol and Oxytocian group was 170.43±33.16ml . The difference was significant (P 0.01) between the Misopostol group and the Oxytocin group. There was no difference between the Misoprostol group and the Misoprostol plus Oxytocin group(P 0.05).Conclusion Misoprostol can reduce the rate of postpartum hemorrhage, and it is better than the single use of oxytocin.
