Abstract

Objective:To investigate the effects of antioxidant treatment on male sperm DNA fragmentation in couples with early unexplained recurrent spontaneous abortion.Methods:Forty-two cases with more than or equal to 15% of sperm DNA fragmentation rate were treated with antioxidant(treatment group),their semen routine and sperm DNA fragmentation rate were detected in 3 months after treatment. The antioxidant treatment was not used in 23 cases with less than 15% of sperm DNA fragmentation rate(control group). The pregnancy and abortion rate of two groups were compared after 1 year. Results:Compared with pretreatment in treatment group, the sperm density and spermatic forward movement rate were significantly higher(P 0.01),the sperm DNA fragmentation rate was significantly lower(P 0.01) and the difference of sperm morphology rate was not statistical significance after treatment(P 0.05).The pregnancy rate of treatment group(66.7%) was higher than that in control group(25.0%)(P 0.05).Conclusions:Antioxidant treatment is a effective means to reduce the sperm DNA fragmentation rate in couples with early unexplained recurrent spontaneous abortion.
