Expression and clinical significance of OPN and MMP-2 in cervical squamous cell carcinoma

Objective To study the expression and clinicopathological significance of osteoponin(OPN) and matrix metalloproteinase2(MMP-2) in cervical squamous cell carcinoma(SCC).Methods The expressions of OPN and MMP-2 were detected in 14 cases of normal cervical squamous epithelium,32 cases of CIN and 78 cases of SCC by immunohistochemistry.Results The positive expression rates of OPN and MMP-2 were 66.67% and 74.36% respcetively in SCC,significantly higher than those in CIN and normal cervical squamous epithelium(P 0.05).Both OPN and MMP-2 expression rates in cases with invasion depth 1/2 cervical wall or lymph node metastasis were significantly higher than in those with invasion depth ≤1/2 cervical wall or without lymph node metastasis(P 0.05).The expression of OPN was significantly related to MMP-2 expression in SCC(P 0.05).Conclusion Over-expression of OPN、MMP-2 may play an important role in the carcinogenesis and progression of cervical squamous carcinoma.
