Abstract
Objective: Our aim was to investigate the relationship between expressions of matrix metalloproteinases (MMP-2, MMP-9) and tumorigenesis, development, and invasion of cervical squamous cell carcinoma. Methods: The active proteins and mRNA of MMP-2 and MMP-9 were analyzed by using gelatin zymography and RT-PCR ,respectively, in 32 cases of cervical squamous cell carcinoma, 30 of chronic cervical inflammation, and 30 normal cervices. Results: The activities of MMP-2 and MMP-9 in carcinoma tissues were statistically higher than those in chronic cervical inflammation and normal cervices (P0.01, P0.01). mRNA of MMP-2 and MMP-9 were significantly higher in carcinoma than those in chronic cervical inflammation and normal cervices (P0.01, P0.01). Conclusion: MMP-2 and MMP-9 are related well with the occurrence, development, and invasion of cervical squamous cell carcinoma.
