Clinical study on the refractive status after phacoemulsification and intraocular lens implantation

Abstract

Objective To investigate the changes in the refractive status and cornea topography after phacoemulsification(Phaco) and intraocular lens(IOL) implantation.Methods Forty-eight age-related cataract patients(67 eyes) who accepted the Phaco and IOL implantation were followed up for 3 months.The uncorrected and corrected visual acuity and corneal topography were measured before and after the sugery.Results The uncorrected and corrected visual acuity was improved after the surgery.There were no statistical differences between the average preoperative and the postoperative refractive power of horizontal corneal,refractive power of vertical corneal and corneal astigmatism respectively(P0.05).The astigmntism against the rule increased while the astigmatism with the rule decreased after the operation.Conclusions Phaco and IOL implantation with 3.0mm scleral tunnel incision does little effect on cornea astigmatism.
