Abstract
This research discussed about the need fulfillment of the main character of The Martian novel. This research aimed to show the main character's effort in fulfilling his needs. The researcher focused on the needs viewed by hierarchy of human need theory by Abraham H Maslow. The data were analyzed using descriptive qualitative method to get the valid data. The instrument of the research in the researcher herself, and the researcher used note taking as the additional research instrument. The Findings showed that Watney needs to fulfill his needs to survive in physiological needs, he can fulfill need of food, oxygen, vitamin, water, and shelter. On safety need, he can fulfill of security, stability freedom from fear/worry and free from disaster. He also can fulfill his esteem-need and self-actualization need without fulfillings his love and belongingness need. Most all need that he fulfilled by actualizing himself he takes out all his potential to solve his need problem despite of endangering himself
