Geology and geochemical characteristics of granite in Kampung Batu Balai, Kuala Krai, Kelantan

Abstract

The study area is located at Kampung Batu Balai, Kuala Krai, Kelantan which is near to Tanah Merah, Machang and Jeli area. The coordinate recorded at the study area is latitude from N 5° 31’ 30” to N 5° 34’ 30” and the longitude recorded at point E 102° 13’ 30” to E 102° 16’ 30”, The study area was covered exactly 25km2. The purpose of the study area to produce latest details geological map 1:10,000 geological map of the study area. Furthermore, the aim is to study the igneous rocks based on petrographic and geochemical analysis by determine the type of volcanic rock based on texture and lastly, the purpose of this thesis is to determine igneous rock in term of its history events and tectonic setting. Geology research involved lithology, structure, texture, geomorphology, stratigraphy and petrography at Kampung Batu Balai, Kuala Krai, Kelantan. Lithologies found in area are granite, slate and alluvium. From field works analysis, characteristics found was clearly show the radial, parallel and dendritic drainage pattern. Hand specimen, thin section and geochemical analysis are method that used in this study to determine the type of volcanic rock that found in the study area.
