Abstract

This article describes the use of shotcrete in Brazil’s tunnels. The author reports that for some 40 years, shotcrete has been used for final lining, and it has held up well. Current requirements are stricter, however, for its use, and these are described in detail. Water infiltration and design considerations weigh heavily in the use of shotcrete. The author also lists 61 examples of tunnels where shotcrete has been used and their case histories. It is concluded that shotcrete has performed well over time and is can reduce costs.
