Abstract

The development objective of the One Wash-Consolidated Water Supply, Sanitation, and Hygiene Account Project for Ethiopia is to increase access to improved water supply, sanitation, and hygiene services and strengthen capacity for water resources management and service delivery. Some of the negative impacts and mitigation measures include: (1) cash compensation for affected land equivalent to replacement value; (2) land for land replacement where feasible, or compensation in cash for the entire landholding according to project affected peoples (PAP’s) choice; (3) relocation assistance (costs of shifting + assistance in re-establishing economic trees + allowance up to a maximum of 12 months while short- term crops mature; (4) opportunity cost compensation equivalent to 2 months net income based on tax records for previous year (or tax records from comparable business, or estimates), or the relocation allowance, whichever is higher; (5) cash compensation for affected building and other fixed assets, taking into account market costs of structures and materials; and (6) vulnerable group identification and need assessment will be conducted and vulnerable support plan be prepared as needed.
