Abstract

This report summarizes the financial and operating data submitted annually to the Urban Mass Transportation Administration (UMTA) by the nation's public transit operators, pursuant to Section 15 of the Urban Mass Transportation (UMT) Act of 1964, as amended. The report also includes a subset of Section 15 data for use in computing Section 9 apportionments. Section 9 is a formula grant program for capital, operating, and certain other assistance created by the Surface Transportation and Uniform Relocation Assistance Act of 1987. The report consists of four chapters. Chapter 1 contains an introduction to the Section 15 reporting system and its relationship to the Section 9 program. Chapter 2 contains aggregate industry statistics derived from the complete Section 15 reports which were submitted. Chapter 3 contains financial and operating data on the individual transit systems which submitted complete Section 15 reports. Chapter 4 contains the operating statistics which were used in the computation of the FY 1988 Section 9 apportionments. All data in this report are for transit fiscal years ending on January 1 and December 31, 1986.
