Abstract
This report summarizes the financial and operating data submitted annually to the Urban Mass Transportation Administration (UMTA) by the nation's public transit operators, pursuant to Section 15 of the Urban Mass Transportation (UMT) Act of 1964, as amended. The report also contains supplemental Section 15 data submitted by certain eligible transit systems for use in computing Section 9 apportionments. Section 9 is a new formula grant program for capital, operating, and certain other assistance created by the Surface Transportation Assistance Act of 1982 (whigh amended the UMT Act). The report consists of four chapters. Chapter 1 contains an introduction to the Section 15 reporting system and the relationship to the Section 9 program. Chapter 2 contains aggregate industry statistics derived from the complete Section 15 reports which were submitted (i.e., excluding the supplemental reports). Chapter 3 contains detailed financial and operating data on the individual transit systems which submitted complete Section 15 reports. Chapter 4 contains the operating statistics (derived from both complete and supplemental reports) which were used in the computation of the FY 1984 Section 9 apportionments. All data in this report are for transit fiscal years ending between July 1, 1981 and June 30, 1982.
