Abstract
Labour migration flows increased more rapidly and became more inter-provincial at the end of the 1980s and early 1990s. This chapter focuses on the role of industrialisation and associated migration flows in economic development. It deals with an analysis of the link between urbanisation and income per capita of the world as a whole and a discussion of the changes over time in this respect in China. In terms of economic development China has been ahead of India for about half a century. Manufacturing activities have thus played a much more important part in China’s development process than in India’s. The chapter also deals with a brief discussion of economic development in China and urbanisation. It shows that there has been an enormous migration of people in China from rural areas to the city. The peak of China’s industrialisation process occurred in 2006.
