Abstract

This article aims to define the category and nature of „unique cities” in the field of knowledge known as the marketing of places. Accepted method is the theoretical and practical analyze problems of marketing activities, especially branding issues, in relation to the cities in which there occurred the tragic historical events. This article attempts to highlight the problem using methods adopted in marketing terminology, and typical rules and strategies in relation to „unique cities”. The practical part of the article made a case study description of Oswiecim and Hiroshima and Nagasaki are the most recognizable symbols of the historic tragedy. General conclusion from the considerations made assertion that modifications to the specific identity of the city towards changing its image have a high probability of occurrence of many obstacles, mainly of a political and social life. With a significant commitment of forces and resources is possible, however, they are overcome and the effective creation of the image, which will support the marketing objectives of the city
