Abstract
In this article author explores the phenomenon of scientism – hiperbolisation of science’s role in cultural life of society, and also the other side of the phenomenon – anti-scientism, school of thought which criticizes or denies the scientism. Author is tracing the history of given phenomenon, and also the reasons of their appearance. The history of those events and reasons of appearance are traced. The Medieval gnoseology and the New Time epistemology are analyzed. The author focusses the attention on such fields of scientism as positivism and pragmatism. An exceptional role of transhumanism in a modern world and it’s scientism-oriented origins are noted. The contemporary actuality of the discussion between scientism - anti-scientism because of accelerating progress and those risks that appear in relation to new knowledge and technology usage is noted.
