Abstract
This chapter first looks at the consumption and demand pattern as well as current production trends for food grains in India. The implications of climate change and the scaling of conservation agriculture are also discussed. Specific strategies are then suggested to increase production and productivity of major grain crops (rice, wheat and maize) as well as coarse cereals and pulses.
