Abstract

Average multiplicities of secondary charged particles produced in d(C/sub 3/H/sub 8/), dTa, n(C/sub 3/H/sub 8/), and nTa inelastic collisions have been measured at the momentum of 1.7 GeV/c per nucleon. It has been found that in interactions of d and n with the nuclei the average multiplicites of negative pions are equal or less than those in nucleon--nucleon collisions; i.e., no multiplication of pions occurs at these energies. The ratio of the neutron average momentum to the average total momentum of all charged particles has been found in the momentum range p/sub n/ = 1--2 GeV/c; the result is = 1.36 +- 0.03.
