Abstract
An attempt is made to determine the percentage of pass-by trips for grocery and discount store developments and to investigate the effect of development size and average daily traffic on trip characteristics. The aim was to develop a set of regression formulas that will provide a higher level of confidence in predicting pass-by-trip percentages. The first step of the study was a literature review, followed by a data acquisition phase. This work also included studying the characteristifcs of several developments within the city of Omaha. After analyzing 12 sites and conducting interviews, the information was analyzed to determine which independent variables assist in predicting pass-by and diverted trip percentages. The details of the study are described, the results are summarized, and recommendations are given for predicting pass-by and diverted trip percentages.
