An Error Analysis Of Students Writing Texts In Using Simple Past Tense

Abstract

This study is aimed at analyzing the errors that the students made in their writing text. This study consists of types of errors made by students in their writing text and the causes of errors. Qualitative method is used by the writer in this study. Moreover, the theories of Dulay, Burt, and Krashen (1982) as citied in James (1998) and Norrish (1983) are used to analyze the data. In collecting the data, the papers are given to the students for the writing text. The object of study is the students of the ninth grade of SMP Muara Ilmu. The result of the study is the most type of errors that the students made is misinformations errors and the most cause of errors is the first language interference.
